Howto: How to prevent snoring
October 7th, 2005
Snoring is primarily caused when loose tissues in the front of the throat hang down across the airway. This happens most often when the snorer is resting on his (or her) back.
Our relatively simple hack for this is to encourage the snorer not to sleep in this position by stitching a tennis ball to the center of the back of a pajama top or T-shirt. If the snorer wears the specially-prepared top/shirt, back-sleep will be too uncomfortable and the snorer will self-correct his/her sleeping position, usually without even waking up.
The stitching itself can be done by passing the needle and thread directly through the tennis ball, but the better solution is to create a pocket out of a square of fabric and sew it to the shirt completely surrounding the ball.
Note: If you have a snoring problem, it is very possible that you suffer from Sleep Apnea. This is is a very serious but controllable condition. Please ask your doctor about Apnea screening.
